There’s a moment every year when Door County settles into summer. When the balmy days start to stretch a little longer and the water beckons, that’s when you know the peninsula has found its rhythm. For those looking to experience Door County at its best, June is hard to beat. And at the center of it all is The Dörr - a perfect home base for whatever kind of summer day you have in mind.

Start on the Water

Few places say summer in Sister Bay like the waterfront. Across the street from The Dörr, Sister Bay Beach offers almost 2,000 feet of shoreline, a sandy beach, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and some of the best sunset views in Door County.

Looking to venture farther out? Scenic boat tours, sailing excursions, and boat rentals give a different perspective of the peninsula and are an unforgettable way to spend a long summer afternoon.

Immerse Yourself in a Few Door County Traditions

In Door County, the unofficial-official way to start summer begins with... goats.

On June 13, our neighbors at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant celebrated the annual Roofing of the Goats, a uniquely Door County tradition that welcomes the restaurant's famous rooftop residents back for the season. Don't worry, you won't miss them - our hooved friends will be here all summer.

Later this month, another cherished community tradition returns. On June 27, the Sister Bay Historical Society Strawberry Festival celebrates the start of summer with homemade strawberry shortcake, live music, local vendors, family activities, and plenty of small-town charm.

Slow Down and Stay Awhile

One of our favorite ways to spend a lazy Sunday morning is with a short drive to the Baileys Harbor Farmers Market. Held weekly from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. throughout the summer, it's a chance to browse local produce, smell some flowers, and enjoy a few baked goods.

Later, make your way to Sister Bay Bowl, a beloved local institution that has been welcoming visitors for generations. Equal parts supper club and bowling alley, it's a true Door County gem, best enjoyed without watching the clock.

Your Gateway to Summer

Whether you're here to enjoy Lake Michigan, explore neighboring towns, or see some goats, June is one of the best times to discover everything the peninsula has to offer.
