Spring

See the cherry blossoms bloom

In mid to late May, Door County’s most famous botanical feature shows its true wonderful colors. Over 2,500 acres of cherry orchards all turn a myriad of colors from white to pink along with the yellow and blue wildflowers. When in full bloom, Door County turns into a fairytale of beauty and cherry aroma.

Explore the change in seasons

The natural wonder of Door County brings people from all over the Midwest to gaze and enjoy the seasons of the northern hemisphere. And spring provides arguably the most stunning transformation of them all. Strap on some hiking boots and explore any of the five state parks Door County has to offer.

Summer

Feel the sand between your toes

Usually heading north doesn’t mean beaches are the destination. But Door County’s clear water and smooth beaches make heading towards the water as memorable as anywhere else in the world. With nine beaches hugging the peninsula, finding those waves crashing on shore is not too far.

Take a swing at it!

There’s never a bad time to play a round of golf. Door County is well aware, with its ten courses throughout the county. Constant perfect weather along with the breeze floating in from the Great Lakes, any course proves to be picturesque as well as challenging.

Sailing takes me away

Door County was named after the ominous title of “Death’s Door” because the passage was so dangerous for early explorers and traders. Now, sailing around Door County is the premier activity during the summer months. With private charters, lighthouse tours and sunset sails available, there are few better ways to experience the land and sea of Door County.

Fall

Get a taste of Door County

As the seasons begin to change again, outdoor activities are recommended to get the last licks of warm weather in. And no better place to visit when the landscape changes than any of the eight wineries throughout the county. Craft breweries and distilleries round out the rest of the peninsula for whatever your palate prefers.

It’s always island time

The county doesn’t stop when the land meets the water. Some of the most highly recommended experiences comes from taking a ferry across the “Port de Morts,” or “Death’s Door” to Washington Island and Rock Island. Take a dip, hike or plenty of pictures at either of these gems past the peninsula.

Cycle through the seasons

While all seasons have their strengths, few can rival the golden splendor throughout Door County when the leaves change colors in fall. Bringing a bicycle or renting one nearby allows for a serene experience alongside the colorful nature that Door County boasts.

Winter

There's 'snow' hiking like snowshoe hiking

Snowshoe hiking in Door County is one of the most unique experiences the Midwest has to offer. With trails through state parks and alongside the shore, the viewing pleasure of Door County’s pristine white snow and ice is worth the price of admission alone.

Door County is also known for its lovely boutique store fronts and villages. With all the towns so close to each other, there is a neighborly feeling among all the business owners who simply enjoy everyone’s presence. And when the temperature drops, perusing inside the shops open year round is an unforgettable experience.
